Wrapping Up Another Pinktober with a Giveaway!

Wrapping Up Another Pinktober with a Giveaway!

Another Pinktober is almost behind us. Many, maybe even most, in the blogosphere are breathing a collective sigh of relief as November appears on the horizon. I guess I’m sort of a misfit because I have never minded Pinktober. As I’ve said before, I look at it as another opportunity to be a little louder. But I must say, it’s not like I’m sad to see the month of breast awareness, I mean breast cancer awareness, come to a close either. I’m not sure if it’s my imagination, but I don’t think I saw as much pink crap in the stores this year. Did you? Or maybe I just haven’t been shopping much lately. Yeah, that’s probably it.

A while back the distributors of the movie Decoding Annie Parker contacted me about spreading the word a bit more about their movie. I agreed. because this is an important movie to have in your personal library, share with others, donate to your cancer center or give away. So I am delighted to have not one, but two copies of this DVD to give away!

Here are four reasons to give this movie a big thumbs up:

  • This movie is about two very different, but equally strong women. We need more movies like this do we not?
  • The movie tells the story of a RESEARCH success story. Again, we need more movies like this!
  • This movie is a perfect example of the need for every patient to be her own best self-advocate.
  • It’s a good story and no, you don’t need to be personally impacted by hereditary cancer to benefit from or enjoy watching this movie.

If you’d like to, you can read my earlier complete review of Decoding Annie Parker here.

Nancy, I would LOVE to own a copy of DECODING ANNIE.PARKER. After a harrowing trip to DUKE MEDICAL CENTER, hoping to get proper treatment, I was once again disappointed with the medical system of today. The physician that asked me to skip my scheduled appointment on October 6. 2014 and just go straight to the ER to be evaluated and admitted, well, she never showed up in the EMERGENCY ROOM and I spent the next two days back in a special room in the ER, and didn't even see a nurse for a day. Can you believe that? I believe I am jaded, and now I am hesitant to even call this doctor who specializes in Breast Cancer, the kind that is difficult to diagnose and treat, for fear of what I would say to her. Really, I don't feel like being a nice person to her and I know myself well enough to know I WOULD be heard by her if I get the opportunity to have a face to face with this "wonderful specialist". The problem, or one of them, is I don't live in North Carolina, I live two states away in Georgia. The transportation bill was a whopping $1,800 (and I was told there would be no charge) and I don't know how I am going to pay it. That was another kick in the teeth. I am not giving up though, I would like to think I am stronger than that. But, I am really getting sick and tired of going from oncologist to oncologist with them telling me how worried they are that I have mets and then being treated this way. I am not here to complain, but the system is getting harder and harder to tolerate, and I think of those worse off than me -- just trying to get decent treatment. PINKTOBER will be a memorable one for me this year, that's for certain. BTW, I saw a drop off of the PINK Ra Ra's this year too, thinking it was just me, but I did get plenty of requests for contributions "For the Cure". I couldn't bring myself to even read them.

Seriously, I would love to win one of the DVD ' S and then pass it along to someone in need, or to a Cancer Center. I hope I win, but if I dont, I know it will be well received by whomever is fortunate enough to take it home.

My best to you and all my sisters, Fran

Fran, I am so sorry you've been dealing with so much and I'm sorry you have been so disappointed by the medical system. Don't give up advocating for what you need and deserve. Decent treatment shouldn't be so hard to get. I appreciate that you took time to read my post and enter my giveaway. Good luck to you - on all fronts.

I've never heard of this movie, so I welcome a chance to win it and view it for myself. I tested negative for genetic links but it is suspected that there's something "in my family code" that passed from my mother to me. She died at age 52 of breast cancer metastases and i was diagnosed at age 48 with Stage IIIB breast cancer and age 49 with Stage IV.

Vickie, I'm sorry about your mother and I'm sorry you've been diagnosed as well. Lots of women test negative, but clearly still have 'something' going on genetically speaking. This is a good movie for anyone for the reasons I mentioned and more. Thank you for participating. You're in!
