June 8th is my mother’s birthday. This year she would have turned 85; a milestone birthday she never reached, nor did she reach the six that came before it.

Last month it was time once again for my six-month oncology checkup with oncologist number four. Due to various circumstances, I’ve had five different oncologists. I’m now back with number 4. Number four is a keeper. I’ll have to write about why this is true sometime.
The first Sunday in June is National Cancer Survivors Day. This is a day marked and intended to celebrate life and honor all those who are living with a history of cancer. What could possibly be wrong with this? On the surface, nothing at all, but…
An important part of blogging and advocacy work is not only writing about things when they are troubling, but also reporting back when good things happen. Today I’m pleased to report that the offensive cancer billboard has been taken down, or more accurately; the offensive message has been swapped out.
I love movies and going to them is a great escape from things like cancer, well, except when the movie is about cancer! Perhaps it seems odd to some, but I can’t seem to read enough books or see too many movies about this topic. Go figure, right?
