March is Lymphedema Awareness Month. Even in 2021, some doctors, including oncologists and surgeons, downplay the risk of their breast cancer patients developing lymphedema (LE). Before undergoing surgery, including a lumpectomy, and before beginning radiation therapy, have a discussion about LE risk.
