Sometimes it seems there are now two color shows every October; the one spectacularly painted each year by Mother Nature’s hand and the one manufactured and marketed around pink and pink ribbons. During the rest of the year when you think about October, which show comes to mind first?
For me, it will always be Mother Nature’s.
Where I live, October is a standout month showcasing Mother Nature’s splendor at her finest. How could anyone not love the cooler temps, spectacular displays of color and gentle reminders to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the moment? October is fall’s high performance month. It’s still my favorite month of all.
And then there’s the other October color show… you know, the pink one.
Sometimes I wonder why October was chosen to be breast cancer awareness month in the first place. After all, a different month would blend in better color-wise would it not?
Regardless, both of October’s color shows are coming to an end.
I choose to close out October not focusing on the pink one at all.
What about you?
Which color show comes to your mind when you think about October?

For me, October has always been about "the foliage" (as my friends from New England always called it). I love the golds and yellows and oranges and reds, so vibrant and bright. The crispness of the air has always made this month one of my favorites. The whole pink thing is just an annoyance, I've decided to focus on the "old" October I knew and loved :)

October means my birthday (a wonderful thing to celebrate) as well as my daughters. I had an odd experience with "pink" this month. My daughter had a volleyball tournament and I guess we did not get the memo. All the teams were sporting pink - pink shirts, pink socks, pink headbands. As I was looking at all of this I wondered, do they REALLY understand why they are wearing pink?

Cancer Daughter, I don't blame you for wondering about that. Sometimes it does seem there is a mindlessness to all the pink use doesn't it? Of course, I do understand the solidarity component when everyone wears pink, but still... Thanks for commenting and happy birthday to you and your daughter!

The mum plant in full yellow bloom is my favorite October color! I love October for the same color reason you do. We do live in a beautiful part of the country this time of year! Thanks for reminding us about the other colors!

Barb, We really do live in a beautiful part of the country. I absolutely love the fall color show, though this year's seems a bit less dramatic, do you agree? Thanks for stopping by neighbor.
