I’ve been blogging now for 12 years. Yep. 12 years! This also means, it’s been 12+ years since my breast cancer diagnosis. A decade plus two more years. That is a decent chunk of time, and this fact is not lost on me.
Believe me, I fully realize how lucky I am to still be blogging, heck, to still be here, period. For some, being around 12+ years post diagnosis would be like winning the lottery. And yes, I am grateful. You bet I am.
12 years ago, I had no idea what I was doing regarding how to do breast cancer or how to write, much less maintain, a blog. Not that I now have everything figured out about either one, but I have managed to figure out a few things. 🙂 I’m still a work in progress. Guess we all are.
Every September about this time, I do a bit of reflecting about the blog. I think about what’s working as well as what might not be. I would love to hear your thoughts, so share them down in the comments, should you be so inclined. I’m also interested in what you’d like to read more (or less) about — or whatever feedback you might have. I’m not fishing for compliments, I’m looking for ALL kinds of feedback, including criticism, suggestions, or whatever input you’ve got to offer.
Counting this one, in 12 years, I have published 712 blog posts.
Who knew I’d have so much to say?
And I’m STILL not done.
There aren’t that many folks still blogging regularly, or at all, who were at it when I first started. I get that. Boy, do I. It’s not a commitment everyone wishes to continue for the long haul for a whole host of reasons. This is a shout out and thank you to all those “old-timers” who welcomed me into the blogging fold. You all know who you are. Grateful still.
If you are a blogging newbie, I hope you feel as welcomed as I did.
A few announcements:
First of all, the blog has been undergoing a few updates/changes and yes, there have been a few glitches. Things will be sorted out soon. Hopefully. Thank you for your patience.
My new book is just about ready for publication! I’ll be sharing more about this soon.
Here’s the title: Emerging: Stories from the Other Side of a Cancer Diagnosis, Loss, and a Pandemic. It’s part memoir, part self-help, part motivational.
I am super excited about some stellar, upcoming #MetsMonday pieces. Cannot wait for you to read them.
Look for a new feature coming soon called “Ask Me Anything” — Okay, just about anything. This will be an experiment. More on this coming soon as well.
I’ve got lots of ideas percolating for what I hope will end up being informative, helpful blog posts.
More stuff is coming to my Resource Library.
And now, let’s get to those all-important giveaway details!
Here are the items that will be included in my giveaway for one lucky winner:
- A warm, cozy Sherpa fleece throw blanket from Land’s End. Color is Evening Blue. (I might have to get one of these for myself – it feels sooo wonderful!)
- A handy Nancy’s Point tote bag with a zipper. There’s also a zipper compartment inside.
- A coffee mug with the Nancy’s Point logo.
- I’m including a 2023 planner – ‘cuz 2023 will be here before we know it!
- You know how I feel about the power of journaling, so I had to include a journal/notebook. I was drawn to its simple design and wonderful feel.
- A copy of my books: Getting Past the Fear AND Cancer Was Not a Gift & It Didn’t Make Me a Better Person. If you’ve read them already, pass them on to someone or donate to your cancer center.
- There might also be a surprise or two tucked in just for fun. 🙂

I am so happy you are "still around", Nancy! You were a lifesaver for me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago. I was ER/PR +, and needed a partial mastectomy, lymph node biopsy, radiation therapy and years of Aromatase inhibitors. The 4th year of the AIs I developed blood clots in one leg and have now been on a blood thinner and wearing support hose which will go on for the rest of my life. Perhaps not all bad considering what so many other women and some men go through. I struggled so much with the AI's!! I tried all the different ones but none of them liked me...so many aches/pains, wild emotions, fatigue etc. Loved reading your blog to learn how you and many others tolerated these medicines and what you did to help minimize the side effects. Thank you for all your help and support! Here's to many more years of reading Nancy's Point. Jan

Congratulations on 12 years! I am almost finished with year one. Your blog has helped me so much to sort out all the conflicting feelings and just plain weirdnesses that come with diagnosis and treatments. Thank you!
(And please enter me in the raffle!)

Hi Nancy,
I'm new here! I just found out about your blog. I was reading A Woman's Guide to Living with Heart Disease by Carolyn Thomas. And she mentions your blog in her book. I plan on reading Cancer Was Not a Gift and It Didn't Make me a Better Person. Congratulations on 12 years of running your blog! I would like to be entered in the giveaway. Thank you!

Hi Deanna, I am a big fan of Carolyn's blog. There's a lot of overlap in issues heart patients and breast cancer patients deal with. Thank you for stopping by. And welcome!

I'm in the UK so can't enter the giveaway unfortunately but what an incredible and probably quite humble and reflective time for you. Congrats on 12 years of blogging, quite an achievement! But most of all, for your 12 years+ since your diagnosis, I hope you celebrate! xxx
